hey there!
Welcome to Balanced Endurance!

I’m an RRCA-certified run coach, endurance athlete, and passionate about helping others unleash their inner athlete through running.

There are many people who tell me “I could never run a marathon, I can only run 3 miles”. But it’s funny, not that long ago, I was in the same boat.
I was one of those non-athletic bookworms. I couldn’t run more than a mile, and didn’t dare go near the cross country team in high school. I tried track one summer when I was younger, and came in dead last for the one race I tried.
But then I went to college, and I had a lot of free time on my hands. I wanted to join some kind of sports team. I picked triathlon. Mainly because I knew I would never make the soccer/lacrosse team because I never played when I was younger. My only rationale for picking triathlon? I didn’t know a single kid in high school who did a triathlon and figured not everyone would be good at all three teams, so I could at least go to the practices and make some friends. It was a crazy decision to make, especially since  I didn’t know how to swim, I didn’t own a bike, and like I mentioned before, I couldn’t run a mile.
So, I borrowed my Aunt’s bike, and joined the team. Below is a picture of me on my first “long” bike ride of 25 miles. I remember feeling SO dead at the end of the ride.
Joining the triathlon team changed me. I realized I was capable of so much more than I thought I was, and was so inspired to continue to push myself outside of my comfort zone.  I worked really hard, and in no time, was transformed into an athlete, being one of the top ranked females in my division of collegiate triathlon.
Endurance sport is now completely integrated into my life, and it has brought so many positive changes into my life. One of the things it has taught me is to push boundaries, and strive for seemingly impossible, because a lot of the time, the impossible is possible. And we are all capable of accomplishing great things.
Of the three disciplines in triathlon, I have found myself in love with running. I love running because it truly is the sport with no barriers. You need a pair of sneakers. That’s it. Running is moving meditation, a great way to explore a new place, and a powerful way to push your limits and achieve goals you didn’t think were possible.
I started Balanced Endurance to help others find a love of running, discover their inner athlete, and hopefully find the long lasting benefits of being part of this amazing community.
Balanced Endurance is a blog and resource to share running tips I have learned from coaching others and competing in the world of triathlon and long distance running, my adventures as I explore the Pacific Northwest, my healthy baking creations, and just some aspects of my life: career, travel, and the life hacks I have found to live a productive and balanced life.
