About Farah

I am an RRCA Level 1 certified run coach who has a passion for all things running. A lifelong New Yorker (I grew up on Long Island, it counts!), I have been running the streets and parks of New York City since late 2008, when I first reluctantly stumbled into the world of road running while training for my first half marathon with a charity group, Team in Training (TNT). After surprising myself and completing the Lake Placid Half Marathon in 2009, I decided it was time to really test my will, and I signed up to train with TNT again for the San Diego Rock’n’Roll Marathon in 2010. Twelve marathons and countless (okay, twenty-something) half marathons later, I haven’t looked back. I’ve also been helping runners cross the finish line as a Coach with TNT in Brooklyn since 2014.

While the half and full marathon distance is my passion, my true forte comes in the form of a different type of running challenge – food: I won the NYC Pizza Run (a 5K that involves eating pizza several times, mid-run) in 2017, and came in second in 2018.

Having spent 8+ years in the customer service industry, I love running for the bond it fosters with the local community. Not only that, I think it is truly the best way to get to know a place – a neighborhood, a borough, or an entire city. I believe wholeheartedly in the mind-body connection, and in the idea that running can be a powerful tool to get to get to know yourself better, both mentally and physically, and I cannot imagine my life without the sport. I am always striving to improve, and hope to inspire the same in other runners, but at the same time, I try not to take myself too seriously (see: pizza run).

I am currently coaching with Team in Training as part of the Spring/Summer 2019 season, and with New York Road Runners as part of their Group Training sessions. RUN WITH NYRR GROUP TRAINING
New York Road Runners (NYRR) offers 6-10 week long group training sessions in Prospect Park every Tuesday and Thursday - which is where you’ll find me at the wee hours of the morning. This group is all about accountability - if you need a motivated group of people to make sure you show up and get your speed work done, this may be for you.

RUN WITH TEAM IN TRAINING
This is what I call the “free" / good karma option. In exchange for raising money for a wonderful cause, you can come train with us - for free! Team in Training (TNT) participants raise money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, while training for endurance events in the Spring and Fall. This is a cause very near and dear to my heart, and I’ve been coaching with them since 2014. We meet almost year-round in Prospect Park on Saturday mornings and Tuesday evenings.

BROOKLYN DOUGHNUT RUN: 5 MILES
Did you know that the doughnut is the perfect* running fuel?This is a 5 mile route making three doughnut stops at some of the best doughnut shops in Brooklyn. We start and end at Barclays Center, and take a round trip running tour of Park Slope, Prospect Heights, and BedStuy.
*According to me and not necessarily to science.
