Welcome to Defy Your Limitations! I’m Kristen. I live in Corvallis, OR with my husband, Ryan, son, Trevor and sweet dog, Dakota. This blog documents my life as I train for road running and triathlon races, as well as try to stay active and fit.

I’ve always been interested in athletics, starting gymnastics at an early age, and quickly becoming interested in soccer and ultimate frisbee, but I was never interested running or swimming for fun. Those kinds of sports always just seemed boring and without purpose-Ha! Additionally, I injured my knees playing soccer in high school (tore my ACL twice!), and didn’t believe I could do long distance running.

When I moved to California for graduate school, and no longer had a team sport to play, I worked out often with my husband. When he started working, he began running over his lunch break, and eventually with a co-worker at the end of the day. He encouraged me to push my jogs to longer distances, and one day I even ran to 5 miles!

I ran my first 5K in October 2010 with a friend. The following spring after lots of research, I wrote myself a training plan, and completed my first 10K and half marathon. This first race completely changed my perception what I could do and I have not looked back!

Since I started running in fall 2010, I have completed a number of races including 5Ks, 10Ks, half marathons, a triathlon, and cycling events.  In December 2012 I completed my first marathon! Now, I’m enjoying working on speed, while I dream about my next marathon and few summer triathlons!  You can find links to my race recaps here.

I am an RRCA Certified Running coach and IRONMAN Certified Coach. I would love to help you reach your goals through one-on-one running or triathlon coaching! I believe training should be tailored to you as an athlete and your schedule. I love to help people challenge themselves by setting goals and finding their edges, but doing so within the context of other life commitments. I wants my athletes to get true joy out of the process and realize they are capable of so much when they are consistent and committed to a goal.

As your coach, we will work together to discuss your goals, strengths, weaknesses and events by first meeting via phone or in person consultation. Training plans will include unlimited email contact and phone or in-person consultations based on your level of plan.
